The presence of a vibrant artistic community within a city is best testimony to the quality of that city's intellectual life. Founded by a local group of artists and chartered in 1966, the Murfreesboro Art League is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance art education and appreciation and thus ensure a vibrant artistic environment in the Murfreesboro and Rutherford County community. They obtained the gallery at the back of Cannonsburgh in 1976 where the group still meets.
The Murfreesboro Art League (MAL) fulfills its mission by:
• Providing art activities and education for adults and children through community activities and affordable classes.
• Providing the community with opportunities to view, enjoy and purchase works by local artists.
• Providing emerging and professional artists a place to work, collaborate and exchange ideas.
• Providing emerging artists an opportunity to learn from professional artists.
• Providing the professional artist promotional and educational opportunities.

Business Meetings
The Murfreesboro Art League holds monthly business meetings for members on the fourth Monday from 6:30 - 8 pm. If there is a fifth Monday in the month, a pot luck meet and greet is held at the same time. The drive-in gate is open from 6:00 to 6:25 pm for those who would like to park in front of the building.
